Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
Exceptionally iconic, the early style “pretzel” masks fashioned by goaltenders would soon give way to the smoother fiberglass examples improved upon from the original by Jacques Plante in 1970. This lot features three replicas of legendary and instantly recognizable style masks, worn by Jacques Plante, Ken Dryden and Rogie Vachon while playing for the Canadiens. Designed to show wear, the Dryden and Plante examples were made by maker Don Scott, with his notation on the interior of the Dryden mask along with “04/2000” and some glue residue, with the Plante mask having full strapping. The Vachon example was made by Marc Poulin, and it too was designed to show wear. A leather strip has been added along the outer edge to accurately portray the original.
