Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
The first European to travel inland into North America, Jacques Cartier claimed what is now known as Canada for the Kingdom of France in 1534. The Brittany explorer would make three historic voyages to the New World during his lifetime. His first colony Charlesbourg-Royal - France's first attempt at a colony in North America, abandoned two years later - was rediscovered by Canadian archaeologists in 2006. We offer a first day cover from 1984 honouring Cartier, signed by five Canadian Prime Ministers. Sporting a reproduction of the engraving by the British American Bank Note Company in 1866 of Cartier and crew over the left side along with the original Cartier postal stamp, Pierre Trudeau (1968-79, 1980-84), Joe Clark (1979-80), John Turner (1984), Brian Mulroney (1984-93) and Kim Campbell (1993) have all signed over the bottom section in mixed inks, with the signatures displaying beautifully. Five Canadian leaders all on one attractive item, and with no condition issues to note, this piece is ideal for framing and display. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
