Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
No stranger to receiving awards, Herb Carnegie is the recipient of a number of prestigious and bestowed upon accolades, including the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship in 1988, the Metropolitan Toronto Canada Day Medal in 1990, the Order of Ontario in 1996, the Order of Canada in 2003 and others. Hailing directly from the Carnegie family, we have a pair of more recent awards, along with four medals won by Herb during his youth/playing days. The first trophy is a “Lifetime Achievement” award from 2001, at 14” with plastic base and mounted athlete, with “Herbert H. Carnegie” engraved over the base. The second trophy is for his induction to the Black Hockey and Sports HOF, at 16” with mounted athlete and thin metal bowl, with the particulars engraved over the base including “Herbert Carnegie”, “August 26, 2006” and “Black Hockey and Sports Hall of Fame”. An LOA from the Carnegie family will accompany.
Both trophies display well with just the lightest of wear, with the 2001 example possibly part of his Canada's Sports Hall of Fame induction that occurred that year. The additional medals include his North York track & field championship medals from Lansing Public School (1931 and 1932), his Earl Haig CI Junior Boys Champion track medal from 1934, and his Mount Pleasant Business association track medal from 1935. Each medal has his name engraved, with moderate to heavier wear. Also included, we have a small open-face frame (7 ½” x 9 ½”- in poor condition) that the medals were originally pinned to, with information about each handwritten over the reverse.
