Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
Hailing from his best offensive season in 1947-48 when he netted an especially impressive 127 points in just 56 games for the Sherbrooke St. Francis club in the QPHL, we have Herb Carnegie’s MVP award, and it comes directly from his family. A Sunbeam Coffeemaster electric kettle with added vacuum percolator, the 6 ½” stainless-steel pot has the particulars engraved over the front including “Herb Carnegie”, “Winner Geo. Povey Memorial Trophy”, “1947-48” and “Most Valuable Player – Sherbrooke Hockey League”. The vacuum percolator mounts atop the kettle, for a total height of just under 13”. There is wear present from use, with a number of dings and marks to the kettle, including some minor staining to the underside. Also included, we have five photos from the era, with each picturing Carnegie with the Sherbrooke club. An LOA from the Carnegie family will accompany this desirable award.
The first two photos are 8” x 10”, with one featuring the Sherbrooke club in the dressing room, presenting a pocket watch to coach Bill Heindl, with text written over the reverse and the date of “1946-47” written on the front. The second 8” x 10” photo pictures Carnegie with his Black Aces linemates, with text again written over the reverse, and the front dated “1947-48”. The remaining three photos are 5” x 7” give or take, with a pair showing Carnegie on ice in his Sherbrooke uniform, with one dated 1946-47 over both the front and reverse, with the second dated both 1946-47 and 1947-48 on the front, with “To Herbie Jr, Love Daddy” handwritten over the reverse. The final 5” x 7” photo pictures Herb on-ice with linemate Vincent McIntyre, with the date of 1946-47 written over the front, and “Manny and me” written over the reverse. All the handwritten text appears to be in Carnegie’s hand, with heavy wear to each photo including creasing, wrinkles, surface wear, damaged corners and paper/glue residue over the reverses.
