Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018

A Hall of Fame player in his own right, Toe Blake was an immortal NHL coach who led the Montreal Canadiens to eight Stanley Cup wins in 13 seasons behind the bench. The Habs won a record five straight Cups under Blake, who debuted as Montreal’s coach in 1955-56. Offered here are Blake’s circa-1960s CCM Tackaberry coach’s skates, which were originally obtained from his estate. Blake led the Canadiens back to glory with four straight appearances in the finals to close out his career, winning the Cup three times, including his swan song in 1967-68. Each well-worn skate used to have a small sticker with “Blake” on it, but they have fallen off and are not included, though their outlines are still visible.
“Tackaberry” and size “9 1/2’” are stamped in the leather undersole on the bottom of the boot of each skate, both of which exhibit loads of wear.
