Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
Towering over most of his opponents at a staggering 6’7” in height, Hal Gill would play in 1108 games over the course of his 16-year National Hockey League career, winning a Stanley Cup in 2008 with the Pittsburgh Penguins. A bronze medalist at the 2004 IIHF World Hockey Championships with his native USA, up on the block here is this Leafs jersey worn by Gill during his less than one season tenure with the club in 2007-08. Made by Reebok with a single size “60” tag affixed to the inner collar; a hand drawn black plus sign is found over the tag as well as two inches have been added. The crests of both the NHL and Reebok adorn the front and back necklines respectively. Decorated over the front with a familiar Leafs team crest with “Toronto Maple Leafs” embroidered into it, the sleeves and verso of the white and blue coloured garment have had Gill’s number “25” sewn to them in tri-layer tackle twill numerals with “Gill” spelt out in single layer blue twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate. Showing light game-wear via a small number of stick marks to the body and sleeves, a large red coloured board burn/paint transfer is present at the left forearm and small cuts near the right cuff, lower reverse and left hip. Of note, pills and snags are seen throughout the piece as well, a common place on jerseys made of this material. A MeiGray patch numbered “E01220” is sewn inside the rear hem and according to their population report, the jersey is a “White Set 1” specimen and is accompanied by a matching LOA.
