Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022

Joining the WHA’s New England Whalers at 49 years of age in 1977-78, Gordie Howe was still posting especially impressive numbers at this tenure of his career, including scoring 96 points in 76 games in his first season in New England. Originating from the personal collection of Summit Series captain and Chicago Black Hawks star defenseman Pat Stapleton, this stick was used by the iconic Howe in the late-1970s during his time with the Whalers. A Sher-Wood Pattern Made PMP model with “Howe” and “9” stamped over the upper shaft, the original white now-yellowing tape over the blade and black-over-white on the knob is intact, with an illegible date code along the underside. Heavy game-use is exhibited on the vintage lumber, with considerable wear to the blade including separations to the fiberglass on the underside, with numerous marks to the shaft along with areas of red paint transfer. An LOA from the Stapleton family will accompany.
