Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017

Any NHL goal was something to celebrate for longtime defenseman Gilles Marotte, but there’s nothing like that first one, especially since he scored it against legendary goalie Terry Sawchuk! Marotte’s First NHL Goal trophy from his 1965-66 rookie season with the Boston Bruins commemorates the defensive defenseman’s first of three goals in his debut campaign among the 56 he scored in 808 NHL games. A Bruins 1964-67 Art Ross “Original Six” NHL official game puck displayed in the middle of this 17” tall tripod trophy with a plaque that reads “Gilles Marotte, First N.H.L. Goal, 18-2-66 in Boston against Toronto Maple Leaf Terry Sawchuk” affixed to the two front legs.
A “Gilles Marotte” plaque sits at the top of the trophy, on the front of the small triangular wood base below the hockey player statue on top. There is a bit of handwriting at the top of the NHL logo on the reverse of the puck that is not discernible. The bottom half of the reverse of the puck has what appears to be adhesive remnants, possibly from tape. The trophy remains structurally solid with various scratches and scuffs to the wood portions of the legs.
