Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
The subject of arguably the most desirable and valuable rookie card in the entire hockey hobby, all items associated with legendary keeper Georges Vezina are highly sought, with important images of the icon at the forefront. We offer exactly that, with an exceedingly scarce media photo of the inaugural Hall of Fame member, with this example all the more noteworthy as the reverse text states the upcoming opening game at Madison Square Garden vs the Americans, on Dec 15th 1925. At approx 6 ½” x 8 ½”, the well-known glossy image with full white border – taken during an earlier season - portrays the goaltender in full gear, with a stamp over the reverse from International Newsreel along with a red pencil crayon notation. A media caption has been affixed with the particulars mentioned, including the date of “12-4-25”.
The clarity and focus of the image is pleasing, with fairly heavy toning, especially over the reverse. A number of small wrinkles are also present, with some light warping to the photo, with a thin edge tear along the bottom left corner. Despite these minor issues, the photo displays well, and would look stunning framed/encapsulated. The Habs defeated the fledgling Americans during the inaugural MSG contest, 3-1.
