Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
Winning the Puck Control Relay during the skills competition the night before, Geoff Sanderson of the Hartford Whalers would register a goal during the second period of the 1997 NHL All-Star Game, with the marker one (1) of eleven (11) scored by the Eastern Conference in an 11-7 win over the Western Conference. Hailing from the second and final All-Star Game appearance of Sanderson's career, offered here is this Eastern Conference jersey worn by Sanderson during the 1997 NHL All-Star Game that was hosted in San Jose by the Sharks. Made by CCM, the inner collar of the Ultrafil material garment sports CCM, "Center Ice Authentic Collection", "Made in Canada" and size "54" labels while the logos of both CCM and the NHL shield have been embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front of the jersey with a partially embroidered "Eastern Conference" team crest, a Hartford Whalers logo patch has been placed over the left shoulder while the all-important 1997 NHL All-Star Game event logo patch sits atop the right shoulder. Having been accented over the sleeves and verso with Sanderson's number "18" in dual-layer tackle twill numerals, "Sanderson" is spelt out in matching style dual layer tackle twill letters that have been affixed directly to the material of the jersey at the top of the back. Having had a 1997 NHL All-Star Game stamp applied to the fight strap along with a serial number, indicating that this was one of five jerseys worn for either the official photo shoot, pre-game warm-up or in one of the three periods, the jersey here displays with game-wear in the form of a couple light stick marks over the lower front and a small board burn on the inside of the left sleeve. Hailing from the set that was sent to each players respective team and accompanied by an NHL LOA listing this information, it is important to note that the jersey was once in a frame, affixed in with fishing line and double sided tape that has left residue throughout while the hem is still sealed in the middle. Additionally, spot stains are present throughout as well.
