Sic simper tyrannis! Saddam Hussein met the fate of the Latin phrase attributed to Brutus, one of Julius Caesar’s assasins, though the murderous Iraqi dictator was put to death after he was tried and convicted of his crimes by his fellow countrymen. Saddam ruled Iraq with an iron fist for nearly three decades before he was ousted from power as a result of the 2003 invasion of Iraq by a coalition of U.S.-led military forces. Found guilty of crimes against humanity by an Iraqi Special Tribunal, he was sentenced to death and hanged on Dec. 30, 2006. Saddam Hussein’s signature in red marker ink sits on the bottom left of this typed document from 1980. The letter measures roughly 8 1/2” x 13” and states a revolutionary council decision in Arabic about the use and valuation of 94 farm units in Iraq. Comes with a JSA LOA.
A translation of the typed text of the letter includes, “According to paragraph A from bylaw 142 the revolutionary council decided on 4/6/80, 1) The properties list under are owned in the villages of Al Dahia & Al Shafiia, a region of Al Qadisieh, A) 46 farm units that are established at a cost of 19,461 dinars, B) 48 farm units that are established at a cost of 37,909 dinars, 2) if two farms are not used the ownership will go back to the Ministry of Agriculture, 3) this decision will be in local newspapers and the minister will see to it.”
