Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Well remembered as the first netminder to regularly don facial protection, Jacques Plante was instrumental in establishing head gear for goaltenders, perfecting models that would be used for years to come. This caramel colored “pretzel” mask, manufactured by Plante's Fibrosport company in Magog Quebec was the first model made by the manufacturer, and it features five interior pads in two different colours, with a WinnWell label on the head strap. Moderate to heavy wear is present on the adult-sized mask, with cracks at the base of the chin (2), beneath the nose and where the straps attach on the right side. There is also what appears to be a serial number, stamped along the inside bridge of the nose.
