Traded to the New York Rangers for Doug Weight in March of 1993, Esa Tikkanen spent just parts of two seasons in Manhattan before returning in 1996-97 and again in 1998-99. Despite his initial short stay, the three-time Frank J. Selke Trophy runner-up contibuted to the Blueshirts Stanley Cup exploits in 1994. Tikkanen would score goals in each of the first three rounds of the Stanley Cup playoffs, including the game-winning goal in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. This New York Rangers 1994 Stanley Cup Championship 10K gold and diamond ring was presented to the Finnish star. Size 10 with an approx. weight of 45 grams, the attractive specimen feature’s “Rangers” in blue enamel placed diagonally across the face, encompassed by a bed of shimmering diamonds, with “Stanley Cup” above and “Champions” below in raised gold along the edge of the bezel. A silver image of Lord Stanley’s hardware along with “1994” and “112 pts” graces the left shank, with a full-colour enamel Rangers logo with “Tikkanen” above and “10” below on the right. The inner band is stamped with "Balfour 10K", with “1940” circled and crossed through engraved below it. While the ring does show wear including scratches to the band and shanks and some minor dings to edges, overall the keepsake presents beautifully. We should also note that the enamel Rangers logo on the right shank is worn/faded, especially the lower portion. The first championship won by the historic Rangers in over half a century, rings of this quality presented to extremely collectible players are highly sought and seldom found, making this an especially rare opportunity. Hailing from Esa Tikkanen's personal collection, his signed LOA will accompany along with the original wooden display case.
