With a record 16 career shutouts in that now defunct league, Ernie Wakely also holds the record for the most games played by a goaltender in the WHA. This vintage Victoriaville Pattern Made Pro model stick was used by Wakely circa late-1960s to early-1970s, at a time when Ernie saw action with a few different clubs including Montreal (only played one game), St. Louis and Cleveland. Accompanying this stick is a vintage Fibrosport goalie mask. Please see the Classic Auctions website for a full breakdown on this lot’s offered items.
The breakdown for the items available in this lot is as follows;
1 – Victoriaville Pattern Made Pro model goal stick. Faded but legible, “Wakely” is stamped on the upper shaft, with his “31” added in black marker. The white tape on the upper shaft/knob is original, while the black tape on the blade and paddle has been changed at some point. Game-use is evident with a small number of black marks, mostly relegated to the paddle.
1 – Vintage Fibrosport goalie mask. In similar Oilers orange and blue, the mask shows good wear with a number of abrasions to its surface and paint. With back head-piece intact, most of the interior padding is still in place, and it’s missing only one of its three head straps. In very good condition overall.
