Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014

The official first edition of the National Hockey League All-Star Game was played in 1947 just prior to the opening of the regular season. Defenceman Emile "Butch" Bouchard and fellow Montreal Canadiens greats Maurice "Rocket" Richard, Bill Durnan and Ken Reardon, all members of the 1946-47 NHL First All Team, were among the top players assembled from around the league to form a powerhouse All-Star team to take on the reigning Stanley Cup champion Toronto Maple Leafs. This amazing and historic 1947 NHL All-Stars game-worn wool sweater is the one Bouchard wore during the inaugural game in Toronto. Butch picked up a penalty in the third period as the All-Stars mounted a comeback for a 4-3 win at Maple Leaf Gardens on October 13. Beautiful red wool sweater with still-vibrant colors featuring blue and white stripes on the sleeves displays five sewn-on white felt stars arched above a fabulous chenille NHL crest on the front. There are five more sewn-on white felt stars arched across the upper back above Butch's number "3" in blue on white double felt. All are glued as well as sewn on as evidenced by the vintage glue residue under the crest, stars and number that shows through on the inside of the sweater. "McNiece's Sports Montreal" tagging remains fully intact sewn into the back of the neck. There are reddish brown stains on the right back of the collar and various tiny holes on the front, back and both sleeves that do not diminish the display of this amazing game-worn treasure from the first NHL All-Star game. Comes with Butch Bouchard's signed LOA.
