Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018

Eddie! Eddie! Eddie! The familiar chant filled Madison Square Garden when Eddie Giacomin was in goal, even when he returned as a member of the Detroit Red Wings. Placed on waivers by the Rangers early in the 1975-76 season, the Hall of Fame goalie was claimed by Detroit and played his first game as a member of the Red Wings in New York on November 2, 1975. “Giacomin E. 1” is stamped on the shaft of his signed 1975-76 Red Wings Sher-Wood game-used stick he used during his first of three seasons with Detroit, which displays solid game wear and comes with a pair of photos. Eddie’s original tape jobs remain on the knob, handle and blade, which has a chip on the top edge of the toe.
Red marker dedicated autograph high on the back of the shaft reads, “To Steve, Good Luck, Eddie Giacomin.” Game use shows in black marks all over the front of the paddle and the untaped portion of the blade at the heel. The bottom edge of the blade is cracked at the heel and on the lower portion of the shaft, where the black, white and gold factory tape has torn along the back edge.
Giacomin signed in bold blue marker along the bottom of a modern print 8x10 photo of himself in action with the Red Wings.
A vintage 8x10 photo of Giacomin in his Red Wings uniform with his mask off and his left arm raised in a greeting to the MSG crowd has a “Sport” stamp in red on the verso and captioned: “Ed Giacomin First Game as a Red Wing vs Rangers on 11-2-75, Credit…… Bob Glass, Not to be used without permission”. Cheered on by Rangers fans, Giacomin led Detroit to a 6-4 win in his Red Wings debut.
