Named in honor of William M. Jennings, the longtime governor and president of the New York Rangers, the William M. Jennings Trophy originated in 1982, with the award presented to "the goaltender(s) having played a minimum of 25 games for the team with the fewest goals scored against it ... based on regular-season play." Star netminder Ed Belfour has won the award an impressive four times, with only Patrick Roy and Martin Brodeur winning more. From his fourth and final season of capturing the prestigious award, we have the William M. Jennings trophy that was presented to Ed Belfour. At approx 11” in height, a circular metal bowl with mounted 1 ½” goaltender sits over a tiered and finished 7” x 7” x 6” wooden base, with a plaque affixed to the base listing the particulars including “William M. Jennings Trophy”, “Ed Belfour” and “1998-99”. The bowl is currently detached from the base, with this easily rectified. There is also brown felt affixed to the underside of the base along with a sticker from NHL trophy maker, Boffey. A signed LOA from Ed Belfour will accompany.
The trophy remains in beautiful condition, with some even tarnishing to the bowl, along with a few minor marks visible over the rim.
