Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
Ed Belfour spent five seasons in Texas at the turn of the century, winning a Stanley Cup with Dallas in 1999. In this lot we have Ed Belfour’s custom-crafted Warwick mask that was worn during his first season in Dallas, and it’s been photo-matched. The interior padding is present including added velcro for cloth forehead accessory, and dual-colour strapping to coincide with the placement of the custom graphics. The manufacturer’s decals remain affixed to the interior, with added handwritten “97/98 First Dallas mask”, and “Ed Belfour 20” over it in gold. Ed’s Trademark eagles grace each side, with his customary “Make-a-Wish Foundation” design over the chin. The back head-piece has custom graphics showcasing a 1941 Willys for Ed’s racing company, named after his Carman Manitoba hometown. An LOA from Ed Belfour will accompany this lot.
In beautiful condition, the mask shows wear along a few edges, with a large dime-size chip on the chin section. As previously mentioned, this mask has also been photo-matched. 5 different Getty images from 1997 show a match to the chip on the chin section, including images from November 15th, December 10th, December 16th and December 27th. The cage currently on the mask isn’t the original while Ed first used the mask in game-play. The mask will also be accompanied by its original carrying case, made by Warwick custom goalie masks in Port Huron Michigan.
