Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
Featuring only four competing teams due to the Great Depression, the 1932 hockey tournament at the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid witnessed Team Canada - represented by the historic Winnipeg Hockey Team - win gold, with the Americans taking home the silver. The US would defeat each team except Canada, losing once to the maple leaf along with a tie in the final game. This 1932 US Olympic Hockey Team 10K gold commemorative ring was presented to United States Hockey Hall of Fame member Douglas Newton Everett, who scored four goals in the five games he participated in. Presented to Everett in the circa 1970s/80s, possibly at the time of his induction into the US HOF in 1974, the size 9 1/2 ring has a weight of 24 grams. Featuring a large red stone over the tableau encompassed by "US Olympic Hockey Team 1932" in raised letters, each shank sports a US hockey shield logo, with the inner band stamped "Jostens 10K" and engraved with the initials "D N E". Exhibiting wear from use, there are scratches to the band and shanks, with a number of small dings along edges of the band. There also appears to be a tiny chip to the red stone on the tableau.
