This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/1/2024
A two-part biographical television mini-series about Don Cherry released by CBC Television in 2010, "Keep Your Head Up, Kid: The Don Cherry Story" would cover Cherry's life mainly from his lengthy career as a minor-league hockey player through the end of his tenure coaching the Boston Bruins, ending with a brief montage of more recent events. Featuring Jared Kesso as Cherry, offered here is this 1960s-style Spokane Comets jersey worn by Keeso during production of the film in scenes that take place during the 1962-63 season, Cherry's only year in Spokane with the Comets. Made by Sports Studio, a brand label that carries a size "50" designation is affixed inside the right hip. A heavy knit sweater style jersey made to resemble those worn during the 1960s, the jersey features features tackle twill team crests sewn-on the front, numbers on the back and stars on the shoulders and remains in good condition with no obvious signs of wear other than some light pilling at both cuffs. A Sports Robe COA will accompany the jersey.
Additionally, also included with the lot is a New York Americans vintage-style "NHL Heritage" jersey sweater produced by CCM. A recreation of the patriotic jerseys worn by the club in 1926, a jock tag is sewn on over the lower left side of the front with "Circa 1926" embroidered below. Displaying both "One Size" and NHL Heritage labels affixed to the inner collar, the red, white and blue ensemble is decorated with "Americans" across the chest in individually applied letters while swatches reading "New" and "York" are found in the red stripe above. Also sporting individually sewn on white felt stars over the shoulders and upper chest, the piece remains in excellent condition except for that a couple of the letters in "Americans" are starting to peel away from the piece.
