Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
A product of the OMJHL's London Knights who would go undrafted by NHL squads, Dino Ciccarelli would sign with the Minnesota North Stars in September of 1979 and go on to a National Hockey League career that would span a total of nineteen (19) seasons and see him play 1232 games with the likes of Minnesota, Washington, Detroit, Tampa Bay and Florida. Able to boast about having exactly 1200 career points under his belt including 608 goals, Ciccarelli would punch home his 600th career National Hockey League goal on February 3rd, 1998 against his old team, the Detroit Red Wings, putting the puck past Chris Osgood on the power play at 14:51 of the 3rd period to tie the game at one (1) goal a piece. With the final scoring standing at 1-1 after regulation and overtime to result in a tie in only his 8th game as a Panther after being accquired by the club via a trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning in January 15th of that same year, Ciccarelli would go on to score eight (8) more goals in his storied career before retiring at the end of the 1998-99 season. Currently sitting at 19th on the all-time goal scorers list and hailing from his personal collection, offered here is this stick and puck used by Dino to pot the 600th goal of his career.
For the stick, an Easton Z-Bubble model shaft that sports an inserted Easton brand blade as well, the stick is void of any Ciccarelli identifiers except for a heavily faded "Ciccarelli" on the stem of the blade. Retaining its original tape job of blue cloth-over-white on the handle/knob and most of the white wrapping over the blade, the monumental stick displays with good game-wear including light marks/abrasions throughout the shaft and numerous dark puck marks throughout the taped and untaped sections of the blade on both sides. Having had the puck from the goal affixed to the forehand side of the blade with a wrapping of tape, from what can be seen of the biscuit, game-wear is apparent through some scuffs and light wear to the exposed edges while an annotation reading "2-3-98 - 600 Goal Detroit PP" is penned over the tape as well in black ballpoint pen.
Once framed in a display that was prominently featured in Dino's ""Ciccarelli's Premier Sports Club and Eatery" restaurant, the pair of items also includes the information plaque from the display that lists information pertaining to the goal. Hailing from his personal collection as previously mentioned, an LOA signed by Ciccarelli will accompany the lot.
