Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Traded from the Tampa Bay Lightning to the Florida Panthers on January 15th, 1998, Dino Ciccarelli would make a near immediate impact on the Panthers line-up, scoring his first Panthers goal in only his third game with the club on January 24th. Ten days later, against him old team the Detroit Red Wings, Ciccarelli would punch home his 600th career National Hockey League goal, putting the puck past Chris Osgood on the power play at 14:51 of the 3rd period to tie the game at one (1) goal a piece. With the final scoring standing at 1-1 after regulation and overtime to result in a tie, Ciccarelli would go on to score eight (8) more goals in his storied career before retiring at the end of the 1998-99 season. Currently sitting at 19th on the all-time goal scorers list and hailing from his personal collection, offered here is this photo-matched Florida Panthers jersey worn by Ciccarelli on the night he scored his monumental 600th career marker.
A heavyweight knit garment made by Starter, affixed to the inner collar is a size tag swatch reading "52-R" along with "Center Ice Authentic Collection" and Starter/NHL labeling, the brand label has had "#600" penned to it in blue ballpoint pen ink. Having had both the Starter and NHL shield logos embroidered into the reverse hem, the front of the jersey is decorated with a Panthers team crest that features beautifully embroidered details throughout while the franchise's fifth anniversary patch that was won by the team throughout the season has been added over the right breast and once again displays a notation that reads "#600" in blue ballpoint pen ink. Sporting matching alternate logo patches that have been placed over both shoulders, the sleeves and verso of the garment have had Ciccarelli's number "22" sewn to them in stacked tri-layer tackle twill numerals while "Ciccarelli" is spelt out in single layer red twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Having been shortened by bringing up the hem, the jersey exhibits good game-wear in the form of stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves while light board burns are dotted over both elbows as well. Featuring pilling throughout the body of the jersey as well the sleeves due to the nature of the material, more pilling is observed on the interior as well at the lower reverse because of the fight strap and at the under arms from rubbing. Regarding the aforementioned photo-matches, the jersey is matched to an included image of Ciccarelli celebrating just having scored his 600th goal to the pair of black marks on the back right elbow with the photo also showing the correct height of the numbers on the back in correlation with the custom-shortened hem.
To our knowledge the first 600th goal milestone jersey to ever be offered at auction, it is worth mentioning for accuracy that the jersey was originally on display at "Ciccarelli's Premier Sports Club and Eatery" restaurant in a frame. Having been removed from said frame and therefore showing some pinholes from the former mounting, the interior hem is lightly sticky from being held together with mounting tape. Hailing from his personal collection as previously mentioned, an LOA signed by Ciccarelli will accompany the piece.
