The Toronto Blue Jays became Canada’s first World Series champions in 1992. Anchored by second baseman Roberto Alomar and the leadership of fellow HOFer Dave Winfield, the Jays beat Oakland in the ALCS and then took out the Atlanta Braves in six games for their first of two straight World Series titles. This magnificent personal 1992 Blue Jays Commissioner’s Trophy was awarded to three-time All-Star Devon White, who was Toronto’s center fielder. “World Series Champions Toronto Blue Jays 1992 Devon White” is spelled out on the front of the gold plaque that encircles the round base, which stands 2 1/2" tall and has a Balfour sticker on the bottom. The names of the 26 Major League Baseball teams in 1992 fly on the flags atop the poles that encircle the baseball anchored and crown-adorned oversized gold ring in the middle. Blue Jays and Braves World Series pins are displayed in the foreground of this wonderful trophy commemorating Toronto’s first championship (the Braves pin is detached but present). There is wear including marks to the gold ring at the base, with a few of the gold flags showing very minor age spotting on the reverses. Overall, the majestic trophy displays beautifully, and we should note that this is one of two known examples of this size trophy originating from the Devon White collection. A letter of provenance signed by White is included.
