The famous winged-wheel of Motor City, borrowed from the legendary Montreal AAA hockey team, the very first winners of the Stanley Cup, the Detroit Red Wings began life almost a century ago as the Detroit Cougars. Known next as the Falcons, the franchise started using the Red Wings moniker in 1932. Eleven Stanley Cup championships have been won by the boys from Motown, with only Montreal and Toronto winning more. This vintage Red Wings jersey hails from the late-1960s during the era that a veteran Gordie Howe still led the squad. Olympic labeling is affixed to the collar along with a size 46 tag, with a laundering label to the inside seam. Featuring a gorgeous period Red Wings team crest with embroidered detailing, "15" is sewn to the sleeves and verso in single twill. Sporting a few marks and small blemishes to the front, there is also a team repair to the left elbow, and two over the lower right sleeve. Players that wore the no 15 for the Red Wings during the era include Ray Cullen and Gary Jarrett (1966-67), Bart Crashley and Galen Head (1967-68), and Hank Monteith, Fred Speck, Sandy Snow and Ron Anderson (1968-69). Sweaters of this quality from the 1960s and earlier have all but dried up in the hobby, with this specimen worthy of even the most discerning connoisseur.
