The famous Detroit Olympia was home to the Detroit Red Wings Hockey Club for half a century, from the earliest days of the franchise when they were known as the Cougars, right up through the legendary career of the one and only Gordie Howe. This lot contains a pair of chairs from the memorable venue used in the first 8 rows of the promenade, from the 1960’s until the closing in 1980. These seats sat in storage for two decades after their original purchase. In solid Detroit red, each seat features metal construction with leather covered seat and back rest. What appears to be a faint “4” has been stenciled onto the top of the back rest of one chair, with “3D” stenciled in white along the reverse. The second chair repeats this numbering, with “11” on front, and “17E” on the reverse. An LOA will accompany each chair.
Exhibiting considerable wear from lengthy use, a few small rips are present in each to the leather, with heavier wear to the lower sections including the underside and legs. The original connecting hardware for the chairs is also included.
