There was no doubt by the end of Derek Jeter’s illustrious career that no other player would ever don No. 2 for the New York Yankees once he retired. Jeter had claimed four of his five World Series titles when he wore this pinstriped No. 2 home jersey during the 2002 season. The perennial All-Star shortstop, who batted .297 with 18 home runs, 75 RBI, and 124 runs scored in 2002, anchored the Core Four of the Yankees dynasty of the late-1990s and 2000s with his hitting, baserunning, fielding and leadership. The Yankees' all-time career leader with 3,465 hits, Jeter’s No. 2 was retired on May 14, 2017 with 14 All-Star selections, five Gold Glove Awards and five Silver Slugger Awards to his credit. Jeter’s game-worn jersey has Russell tagging with a “2002” season patch beneath it on the left front tail along with size “48” and “+2” Length” flag tags. The tagging shows evidence of being washed numerous times. In addition to being all-time MLB leader in hits by a shortstop, Jeter is the Yankees’ all-time leader in doubles (544), games played (2,747), stolen bases (358), times on base (4,716), plate appearances (12,602) and at bats (11,195), and clearly deserves his place among the likes of Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Berra and Mantle among single numbers retired by the Yankees. Comes with a Yankees-Steiner LOA.
