The 1968 season was baseball’s Year of the Pitcher and Detroit’s Denny McLain was at the top of the peak with an astounding 31 regular season wins for the World Series champion Tigers. The 1968 AL MVP, and Cy Young winner in both 1968 and 1969, McLain signed and wrote all the annotations in his own hand on this vintage Wilson “31 Wins” baseball glove and an 8x10 photo of him in his windup on the Tiger Stadium mound. The glove was issued circa 1969 to commemorate McLain’s 31-win season in 1968. This signed glove, which is a store-sold souvenir glove that exhibits plenty of wear and is not a game-used glove, comes with a JSA LOA which states that all inscriptions are in McLain’s hand.
McLain signed on the back of the glove along with the “31-6, 1968, Cy 1968 & 1969, MVP: 1968, *GAMER USED*” black marker annotation. “This Glove Won 31 GAMES. (1968)” black marker annotation is written on the back of the thumb, to the left of “The Controller” factory embossed stamp to the right of the Wilson tagging. There is an illegible name written in fading marker on the front of the glove’s little finger.
McLain signed with the “31-6, 1968” black marker annotation on the 8x10 photo.
