Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
Retiring after 16 seasons split between Ottawa and Toronto, King Clancy enjoyed just over a decade as an NHL referee beginning circa 1938. This lot includes 9 Referee Expense Sheets from the 1944-45 NHL season all signed by the King, along with a pair of telegrams also from 1944-45. The expense sheets are all 4 1/2" x 7 1/2", with the date and opponents for each game, with 7 from April 1945, and a pair from March. Clancy has signed each in black ink, with no issues for any of the autographs. One telegram is dated April 24, 1945 and was sent by Clancy to his wife, while the second is dated March 12, 1945, sent by league president Red Dutton to Clancy with "Want you Chicago Thursday fifteenth, Canadiens Saturday Seventeenth and Boston Eighteenth confirm" (the two March expense sheets match the Chicago game on the 15th, and the Canadiens game on the 17th). The sheets all show minimal wear, with holes pinched from prior binder insertion.
