Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 5/31/2022
Led by the “Stratford Streak”, Howie Morenz would help the Montreal Canadiens to three Stanley Cup Championships, in 1924, 1930, and 1931. Tragically having his career cut short in 1937 due to a broken leg and passing away from the injury a short time later, Morenz became the first National Hockey League player to have his number retired. Presented here, we have an especially rare Morenz picture that has been signed by the iconic superstar. At 8” x 10” and on thin stock, the legend is pictured in his Habs full uniform, signing just below his image with a beautiful flowing pencil signature, signing as “H. Morenz”. The signature displays well and remains quite bold when age and medium are taken into account. The picture itself also displays well, showcasing a bit of toning along with small creases and minor edge tears, with a single vertical as well as a horizontal fold line. The reverse of the photo remains clean with no marks or spots. Having been encapsulated and certified as “Authentic Auto” by PSA/DNA, the holder remains in excellent condition with a few scratches to the front and reverse.
