Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024

Led by the “Stratford Streak”, Howie Morenz would help the Montreal Canadiens to three Stanley Cup Championships, in 1924, 1930, and 1931. Tragically having his career cut short in 1937 due to a broken leg and passing away from the injury a short time later, Morenz became the first National Hockey League player to have his number retired. Presented here, we have an especially rare Morenz picture that has been signed by the iconic superstar. At 8” x 10” and on thin stock, the legend is pictured in his Habs full uniform, signing alongside his image with a beautiful flowing fountain pen ink that has been made out with "To Barbara Yours Sincerely" in matching ink. Also sporting a date of "Dec 16 / 32" underneath the autograph, aiding to the thought that the signed photo would have created wonderful Christmas memories when it was signed by Morenz for the original owner, the signature displays well and remains quite bold when age and medium are taken into account. For the photo itself, showing numerous pinholes and a small tear at the top edge, the image is heavily toned and shows dark coloured spot stains throughout the front and reverse, with liquid staining gracing the back side of the photo as well. Finally, creasing is also exhibited to go along with some minor edge and corner wear. Having been encapsulated and certified as an “Authentic Auto” by PSA/DNA, the holder remains in excellent condition with a few minor scratches/scuffs over the front and reverse that are worth mentioning for accuracy.
