A four-time NHL All-Star and three-time winner of the Lady Byng Trophy, Bobby Bauer was a member of “the Greatest Generation”, taking time from his hockey career with Boston to enlist with the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. Bauer would return to Beantown after serving his country, and would be named Bruins captain in 1946-47. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a two-page handwritten letter signed by the 1996 HOF inductee. At 5” x 8” and dated “Sept 26/41”, each page has dark ink text on a single side, with Bauer relaying his summer exploits. The signature presents impeccably, with just light wear to the letter itself. Bauer would leave us in 1964 at just 49 years-of-age.
With no issues for the signature as mentioned, the letter exhibits expected fold lines along with light toning, with holes punched along the top section to facilitate binder insertion. There is also a pencil notation from Hamlyn stating that he received the letter on Oct 2, 1941.
