Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Throughout the history of hockey, it has not been uncommon to see a team recycle a jersey after a player has left the roster. This size 58-G Starter Montreal Canadiens game-worn jersey is one of those as it was initially donned during the 1998-99 season by tough-as-nails Dave Manson before he was traded to Chicago after 11 games. A few years later, the Canadiens recycled it to be used in training camp during the 2000s by a prospect with the last name of Beaulieu. There is also evidence that a smaller nameplate previous existed under the one that is on the jersey. The upper left front also shows signs that an “A” had been sewn on, but it was removed when the jersey was recycled. Analysis of this sweater shows a large amount of black marks and paint transfer on each arm in addition to multiple black marks near the right shoulder. A small stain can be seen on the lower left near the red band while the blue band has a small hole toward the middle. The collar tag is NHL Center Ice Authentic by Starter and the actual 58-G size tag appears on the interior of the bottom hem. At the back of the bottom hem, there is a large Starter logo and an orange and black NHL shield. There is a small stain near the shield as well. Obtained directly from the Canadiens, a LOA from the team signed by Rejean Houle will accompany. However, this LOA only states that the jersey is a 1990s Beaulieu pre-season jersey.
