Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
A steady presence, Cory Cross spent three seasons with Toronto from 1999 to 2002, providing
a physical defensive presence and contributing to the team’s deep playoff runs. During the
2001-02 season, Cross appeared in 40 regular-season games, while adding key minutes in the
postseason as the Leafs advanced to the Eastern Conference Final.
Worn during the Toronto Maple Leafs’ October 6, 2001, game against the Montreal Canadiens,
this game-worn jersey was part of the team’s special set celebrating Hockey Night in Canada’s
50th anniversary broadcast. The Maple Leafs wore these jerseys exclusively for the milestone
game in Montreal, with the jerseys later retained by CBC, which subsequently added the “HNIC”
patch sewn onto the left breast. This jersey saw additional game use, including pre-season
matchups leading up to and including the October 6 contest, before being included in CBC’s
charity initiatives, where over two dozen of these Hockey Night in Canada 50th anniversary
jerseys were distributed for fundraising efforts.
This jersey features a “Size 58” tag and a “Made in Canada” designation. The stitched Maple
Leafs crest sits across the chest, while Cross’ number 4 is sewn in blue and white over silver
twill on both arms and the back. The nameplate features “CROSS” in matching blue twill
lettering, securely affixed to the back of the jersey. The Hockey Night in Canada 50th
anniversary patch is prominently placed on the left chest, distinguishing this jersey as part of the
commemorative set. The CCM logo is embroidered just above the nameplate, while Toronto
Maple Leafs (TM) shoulder patches are present on both shoulders.
Showing noticeable game wear, the jersey exhibits large stick marks on the front, several stick
marks on the left arm, and additional stick marks on the right arm, along with a few small ones
on the back. Inside, the fight strap remains firmly attached.
On the back, Cory Cross’ signature is boldly inscribed in blue permanent marker at the left of his
number, well-preserved with no significant fading or smudging.
