Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
Vintage equipment collectors rejoice! We have a great grouping of earlier hockey equipment, highlighted by a pair of desirable leather helmets along with extremely rare Winchester Arms skate blades. Included, there are Planerts hockey skates in the original box from the late-1930s, 2 pairs of antique skates with wooden bases, high caliber Stall & Dean Puckmaster shoulder pads from the 1960s, a Derek Sanderson signature model Franklin helmet from the 1970s, Stall & Dean Puckmaster elbow pads from the 1950s/1960s and the two aforementioned leather helmets, with examples from Ken-Wel and Stall & Dean, along with a plastic Cooper Weeks youth helmet from the 1960s.
The Planerts skates show light use with nice decals, with the metal eyelet holes oxidized, while the box has heavy wear with loss in spots along with clear tape added. The Winchester Lake Placid model skate blades hail from the late-teens and are size 10, and they remain in excellent condition with moderate wear. Next, the S&D elbow pads show nice use with a few marks present, with the company logo only present on one pad, while the S&D shoulder pads and Cooper Weeks helmet show just very light use. The Sanderson helmet has intact strapping and padding, and it’s slightly darkened over time with marks and wear present, with a nice facsimile signature. Lastly, the Ken-Wel helmet is a 6-spoke example that hails from roughly the 1940s, with “Jack Adam’s Hockey Equipment” on the label, and it exhibits heavy wear and is brittle, with the strapping intact along with considerable rubbing to the leather in spots, while the S&D example shows moderate wear with intact head and chin straps.
