Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/1/2022
Regarded as one of the sport’s preeminent jersey styles, the iconic winged-wheel logo of the Detroit Red Wings is borrowed from the earlier game and symbolizes swift movement, with the spoked wheel giving a nod to Motor City’s automotive history. This durene specimen hails from the mid-1970s, and with Red Wings’ farm clubs also sported matching-style jerseys, this example may originate with the Adirondack Red Wings (AHL) or Kansas City Red Wings (CHL). A Rawlings label with “48” sizing is affixed to the collar, with no other tagging present. Featuring the classic winged-wheel team crest fully embroidered, “14” is sewn to the sleeves and verso in single white twill, with each sleeve custom-shortened to the mid-elbow. Sporting the intact original garter-style fight strap, we should note no signs of alternations to the numbers or team crest, with no evidence of a former nameplate. Exhibiting a few marks over the front and reverse, there is pilling to the interior, with a bit of red paint transfer over the front and reverse bands. Team repairs are also present, with examples situated over the front (4) and sleeves (1).
