Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
A New York Militia quartermaster general during the Civil War, Chester A. Arthur was appointed to the post of Collector of the Port of New York in 1871 by President Grant. Later added to the winning 1880 Presidential ticket with James Garfield, Arthur assumed the office of the Presidency upon the death of Garfield, serving as the 21st President of the United States from September 19, 1881, to March 4, 1885. We have a signed calling card from the Vermont native. At approx 2 ¾” x 4”, “Executive Mansion, Washington” appears over the upper right, with Arthur adding a dark and gorgeous flowing black ink fountain pen signature. With just a few tiny blemishes encompassing the signature, the reverse has light staining along with some remaining paper residue. Arthur would pass in 1886 at age 57. An LOA from JSA will accompany, along with a COA.
