Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
A prerequisite for any quality Canadiana collection, we have a wonderful group of signatures from past Canadian Prime Ministers totaling 4, highlighted by a not-often seen Robert Borden example from the World War I era incumbent, along with signatures from Mackenzie King (1935-48), John Diefenbaker (1957-63) and Joe Clark (1979-80). The Borden (1911-1920) example is a small 1” x 2” fountain pen cut, while the Mackenzie King is a fountain pen signature on a 3” x 4 ½” card that has been taped to a backing, with a small “House of Commons” cut affixed. Next, the Diefenbaker ballpoint signature has been applied to a souvenir copy of “The Canadian Bill of Rights” (9” x 11”), with the date of “Sept 18th 1975” handwritten. Lastly, the Clark example is a full typed letter on embossed Prime Minister letterhead dated Oct 3rd 1979 (8” x 9 ½”), with a bold blue ink signature. A JSA Basic Cert will accompany for the Clark signature, with full JSA LOAs for the remaining three signatures.
The Borden signature is a bit light, with residue from tape on the reverse somewhat bleeding through the surface, while the King example is bold with no issues, with toning and wear to the paper and mount. Finally, both the Clark and Diefenbaker are wonderful examples with no issues. We should also note that the Diefenbaker is accompanied by a signed typed letter from secretary Beatrice Eligh on House of Commons letterhead, dated Oct 17th 1975.
