Instantly recognized but the style of helmet he wore throughout his National Hockey League career, Butch Goring was regarded as the “final piece of the puzzle” in the New York Islanders dynasty of the early-1980s and a key cog in the wheel that helped them win four (4) straight Stanley Cup championships during that time. The Conn Smythe Trophy recipient in 1981, Goring would play the final 39 games of his storied career in the black and gold of the Boston Bruins in the later part of the 1984-85 season, donning this photo-matched Bruins jersey during home games at the Boston Garden. A CCM made mesh offering that is void of any tagging or labeling but measuring out to a size “52”, the outline of the CCM patch that was once sewn over the reverse hem is still visible. Having been decorated over the front with the famed spoked “B” Bruins crest in layered tackle twill, matching alternate logo patches have been affixed over each shoulder as well. Having had Goring’s number “22” sewn to both the sleeves and verso in dual-layer black-over-yellow tackle twill numerals, “Goring” is spelt out in matching style across the matching mesh nameplate across the top of the back. Of note, the nameplate is not the original one from the jersey and is likely one that was made up and reapplied to the jersey by the team after the completion of the following year’s pre-season in which these jerseys were recycled into. Showing good game-wear, stick marks are seen over both sleeves, the lower front and the lower reverse while numerous board burns and numerous board burns and spots of red and blue paint board transfer are present over both sleeves as well. Showing additional wear through an unrepaired cut near the right cuff, team repairs over both sleeves and the lower reverse and more board paint transfers over the body, the collar and interior of the jersey show good amounts of pilling throughout along with a fray/popped seam at the top of the team crest. Having had the fight strap cut out of the interior and the yellow colour bleed into the white from numerous washings, the jersey has been photo-matched to an image of Goring that shows the team repair under the first “2” on the reverse, multiple loose threads off of that same “2”, a mostly washed out stick mark over the reverse hem and part of the team repair directly to the right of the second “2” on the left sleeve. A copy of the image will accompany the jersey.
