Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
Loaded with youthful talent including Mario Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr and Mark Recchi, the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1990-91 would be led by veteran superstar Bryan Trottier, with the Art Ross and Hart Memorial Trophy-winner helping take the Pens to their first Stanley Cup. For their status as Wales Conference playoff champions, members of the Penguins received miniature Prince of Wales trophies to commemorate their fine campaign, with “Bryan Trottier” engraved along with that of the trophy on a metal plaque applied to one side of the 2-inch high wooden base, while engraving on a second plaque over the reverse reads "NHL Champions – Pittsburgh Penguins – 1990-91". Four silver-plated hockey sticks rise up from the base to support a cup with removable lid (with bent finial), giving the award a total height of just under 13”. Originating from Trottier’s personal collection, an LOA from the family will accompany.
As mentioned, the top finial is bent downward, with a few areas over the bottom metal sections and Prince of Wales/name plaque showing wear. There is also some light surface wear to the trophy’s inner/outer rim and lid, with additional wear to the body of the trophy including a few scratches and blemishes.
