Officiating in various leagues during the decade of the 1970s including the GTHL, WHL, OHA, AHL and of course the National Hockey League as both a linesman and referee, offered here is this NHL referee jersey worn by Bruce Garside during the 1977-78 season, his first year wearing the orange armbands on his sleeves. A rare one-year style made by Gerry Cosby, the company's label sits firmly affixed to the inner collar while the classic black and white striped sweater of a quarter-zip style measures out to roughly a size "42". Having had an NHL shield crest that displays with embroidered details sewn on over the left breast, the rest of the sweater features the previously mentioned orange armbands sewn overtop of the sleeves while the knitted sweater also sports a solid black collar, waistband and cuffs. Having had "Garside" spelt out in dual layer orange-over-white tackle twill letters across the affixed black twill nameplate on the reverse, the only season the NHL had officials wear jerseys with their names in this style was the '77-'78 regular season before they switched to just solid white letters for the 1978 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Additionally, 1977-78 also marked the first year that officials had their names on the back of their jerseys instead of numbers. Surviving in excellent condition with a trio of small holes over the front and lower front, small spot stains are seen throughout the body and sleevesthat are worthy of mention while a blue coloured board paint transfer mark/board burn is observed on the right forearm and a red coloured board paint transfer is present on the left sleeve. Additionally, good pilling throughout the interior and exterior as well.
