Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
A veteran of 881 games in the National Hockey League despite never being drafted, Brian Skrudland would suit up for the likes of the Montreal Canadiens, Calgary Flames, Florida Panthers, New York Rangers and Dallas Stars during the course of his career, winning Lord Stanley's mug with Montreal in 1986 and Dallas in 1999 while also being named an all-star in 1991. Offered here from his lone season in the bright lights of New York City as a member of the Rangers, we present this photo-matched Blueshirts jersey worn by Brian during the 1997-98 season. Made by Starter with Starter/Center Ice Authentic Collection and size "54-R" tagging affixed to the inner collar, the mesh construction garment has had both the Starter and NHL shield logos embroidered into the reverse hem. A classic tie-neck style jersey that is decorated with "Rangers" going diagonally down the front in drop-shadow red-over-white tackle twill letters, the sleeves and verso have had Skrudland's number "20" sewn to them in match style with "Skrudland" spelt out in matching style letters affixed directly to the jersey in an arch over the top of the back. Displaying good game-wear, board burns and stick marks are observed over both sleeves (heaviest over the left one), with additional board burns and stick marks throughout the front as well. Sporting numerous stick marks over the reverse side, pilling is found on the interior at both elbows while the fight strap exhibits rusting in the snaps. Hailing from his personal collection and accompanied by his signed LOA, the jersey has been photo-matched with Getty Image #246732 (December 16th, 1997 vs New Jersey) to the board burn at Skrudland's right shoulder and to the layering and distinctive features of the right sleeve numbers.
