Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
Combining strong physical play with exceptional scoring abilities to serve as the only player in NHL history with over 600 goals and 2,000 penalty minutes, Brendan Shanahan won a trio of Stanley Cup championships with Detroit, along with gold medals at the World Championships, Canada Cup and Winter Olympics while representing Canada. Offered here, we present this stick used by Shanahan as a member of the Red Wings during the 2003-04 season. An Easton Classic model with an aluminum shaft and inserted wooden blade, factory graphics reading "B. Shanahan" are found over the middle portion of the shaft. Retaining its original tape job of black over the handle/knob and blade, the original HockeyTown Authentics store price sticker is affixed near the top underneath the handle wrapping. Remaining structurally sound with no cracks or breaks to make mention of, the stick displays with light-to-moderate game wear via marks/abrasions over the untaped areas of the blade, heel and stem with additional marks and abrasions of a similar variety throughout the length of the shaft as well. With some light soiling to the blade tape present on both sides along with puck marks, a HockeyTown Authentics hologram is affixed to the bottom of the shaft on the forehand side and is accompanied by a matching HTA COA.
Of note, the original envelope that the HTA COA came in lists the stick as being used by Shanahan on February 14th, 2004 vs the Colorado Avalanche that resulted in a 5-2 loss on home ice with Shanny recording an assist on Steve Yzerman's power play goal at 18:44 of the 1st period, with a notation reading "2/14/04" found in thin black marker on the underside of the upper shaft also supporting this as well.
