Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018

One of the landmark European players that first paved the way for later NHL importing, defenceman Borje Salming spent a full sixteen seasons in Toronto, with the Kiruna native holding numerous franchise records including most career points by a defenceman. We have a Leafs alternate captain’s jersey worn by the inaugural Swedish HOFer, with this example hailing from his last season in Ontario in 1988-89. Possibly the final road sweater worn with the Leafs, the collar is currently void of labeling, with an embroidered CCM crest over the reverse bottom hem. Styled with the Leafs team crest that saw use from 1987 to 2016, the solid blue V-neck has been accented with tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers, with “Salming” across the nameplate in matching material. Salming became a member of the prestigious HOF in 1996.
A few faint marks are visible over the front and sleeves, with large team repairs over and near each elbow section. There is also considerable pilling over each inner sleeve. Measuring 26” along the reverse from armpit to armpit, the jersey is roughly a size 52.
