Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Any and all items pertaining to the genesis of legendary defenceman Bobby Orr’s HOF career are special and highly sought after, and it’s no different with this amazing rookie-era game-used stick. A Northland Custom Pro model that’s been “Glass Fused”, “Orr” appears mid-way up with “4” stamped just beneath the knob. The stick’s lie is listed as a “5”, with a good portion of the lower striping sticker intact. The cracked and slightly curved blade exhibits seven strands of tape original to Orr, with a massive darkened "corndog" style knob with soiled white over black "bulldog", taped in a style that predates his well-known ribbed grip from later years. Nice use is exhibited on the important gamer, with wear to the blade along with marks and abrasions to the lower shaft.
Woody Dumart, the Bruins store supplier has stamps on both sides of the upper shaft, next to examples from Northland Skis with their Minnesota address listed. We should also note that a crack that runs on both sides of the shaft from mid-way up to just beneath the knob has been repaired with glue, and it does little to nothing to diminish the sticks’s display value.
