Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
Originally available as a complete set or in smaller packet form, the 1983 Hockey Hall of Fame postcard set numbers 240, with the artwork executed by deceased artist and noted collector Carleton McDiarmid. In this lot we have the original illustration for card #E13 Bobby Orr, fashioned on board with foam backing. At 10 ½” x 15”, the one-of-a-kind watercolour painting includes other mediums such as marker, with the realistic portrait of Orr featuring beautiful piercing blue eyes. McDiarmid has added “Mac” beneath Orr’s right glove, and the piece has been matted to total dimensions of 16” x 20”. In very good condition and awaiting a frame, there is some wear to mention with a few creases that runs horizontally across Bobby’s face along with a small unobtrusive tear above the right eyes, but the piece displays extremely well regardless.
