Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024

Receiving the first million dollar signing bonus in hockey history, Bobby Hull signed with the Winnipeg Jets to the dismay of the NHL in 1972, with the superstar arguably the biggest draw the rebel league ever acquired. We have a stick used by Hull during his second season in River City, in 1973-74. A Northland stick with no identifiers other than the pattern number of “1178” on the underside and "B. Hull" stamped over the upper shaft, Bobby's famed number "9" is penned above the name stamp in black marker ink that still displays well and without issue. Retaining its original black tape job over the shaved down handle/knob and blade, a red vinyl label that reads "Bobby Hull 1974" is affixed to the backhand side of the upper shaft while the red and blue accents at the bottom of the shaft are partially intact and faded though the white ring in the middle has been lost to time. Exhibiting game-use via some light marks/abrasions over the shaft, heel and untaped sections of the blade, both sides of the blade tape display with marks as well while the backhand side sports a splattered residue that is worth noting for accuracy. Originally gifted by Hull to WHA linesman Gene Kusy, a copy of a letter of provenance signed and dated by his son, Michael, will accompany the piece.
