Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
Born in Sudbury, Ontario and playing junior hockey with the Toronto Marlboros of the Ontario Hockey Association, winning a Memorial Cup championship in 1967, Bob Whidden would go on to play professionally in the EHL (Eastern Hockey League), AHL (American Hockey League), NAHL (North American Hockey League) and also the WHA (World Hockey Association), suiting up for the Cleveland Crusaders for four (4) seasons between 1972 and 1976. Offered here, we present this Crusaders jersey worn by Whidden during the club's inaugural season of 1972-73. A heavy durene knit construction offering made by Rawlings, a brand label displaying a size "50" designation is sewn on inside the reverse hem alongside a washing instructions tag as well. A classic tie-neck style garment still sporting its black coloured lace through the eyelets, the front of the jersey is decorated with a Crusaders team crest that has been administered in layered tackle twill. Also sporting beautifully done chain-stitched details in the crest, the sleeves and verso have been styled with Whidden's number "1" in single layer white twill numerals while "Whidden" is spelt out in matching style letters that have been sewn directly to the material at the top of the reverse. Void of a fight strap on the interior, the jersey shows just light game-wear via a small red coloured post paint transfer mark over the right sleeve, a couple light washed out puck marks over the lower front and crest and some red crossbar paint in the "1" on the reverse. Displaying spot stains and some minor discolouration throughout the white areas of the jersey, the interior shows just a small number of pills throughout.
