One of the last of the manly men that plunged into the NHL fray without the safety of a helmet, and certainly not afraid to drop the gloves, Bob Nystrom would spend his entire 14-season career in the Big Apple with the Islanders, and he’s best remembered for scoring the 1980 Stanley Cup-winning goal in overtime. This Islanders jersey was worn by the Hinton native circa 1973-74, before being recycled for Steve Short of the Forth Worth Texans. The Fort Worth Texans team crest (now removed) was put over the original Islanders team crest when recycled by Fort Worth (they usually removed the team crest), with the number "23" on reverse and sleeves replaced by Fort Worth for a brighter new look. The lace in collar is not original, additionally, the tagging is gone from the collar, with the jersey measuring-out to a size 50. The loop-style fight strap is intact, and it has been modified with a skate lace, and we should also note evidence of a former nameplate. The original Islanders crest shows heavy wear, while the reverse numbers show puckering. There is also a repair to the bottom of the collar, with considerable fabric pulls and bunching of the material throughout, with team repairs to each sleeve and the upper reverse. Lastly, there are a few stains beneath the reverse right shoulder, and paint transfer beneath the numbers. An LOA will accompany.
