Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
Claiming Lord Stanley’s hardware on a controversial goal scored during the third overtime of Game 6 of the 1999 Stanley Cup finals, the Dallas Stars would win their first championship in franchise history, with Joe Nieuwendyk taking home the Conn Smythe as post-season MVP. Legendary Hall of Fame member Bob Gainey would serve as both GM and Vice President of Hockey Operations, winning his lone Stanley Cup as an executive. This Stanley Cup trophy was presented to Gainey for the Stars' status as 1999 Stanley Cup champions. Standing a majestic 13” and mounted to a wooden base with brown felt underside, the names of the men who made it happen are engraved in three rows beneath the team executives, with “Dallas Stars” and “1998-99” engraved above. Hailing from his personal collection, a signed LOA from Bob Gainey will accompany this majestic Stanley Cup championship trophy.
In gorgeous condition with just a bit of very light surface wear and no unsightly dings, marks or dents, we should note that the top bowl was slightly bent, and was repaired by Boffey, the trophy’s maker. Gainey has signed the underside of the base in white, with no issues for the signature.
