Capturing his lone Conn Smythe Trophy as the NHL’s most valuable player during the 1978-79 playoffs, Bob Gainey would also be awarded the coveted Frank J. Selke Trophy – his second of four consecutive – as the NHL’s premier defensive forward. This Stanley Cup trophy was presented to Gainey for the Canadiens' status as 1979 Stanley Cup champions – their fourth consecutive. Standing a majestic 13” and mounted to a wooden base with green felt underside, the names of the men who made it happen are engraved in three rows beneath the Canadiens’ executives, with “Club de Hockey Canadien” and “1978-79” engraved above. The underside has also been signed by Gainey in black marker, with no issues for the signature. Hailing from his personal collection, a signed LOA from Bob Gainey will accompany this majestic Stanley Cup championship trophy.
Exhibiting light surface wear, especially along the lower portions, the trophy remains in beautiful condition, with a few small surface blemishes visible. There is also a small dent/ding at the section where the trophy begins to tier, with a few small scratches and nicks also present on the majestic award. A piece of masking tape with “Bob” handwritten also resides on the underside. The green felt is also slight detached along a few edges.
